So, a few months ago I got an email from my dad's future wife talking about women's suffrage and this movie Iron Jawed Angels. The email gave a brief synopsis of the movie - about how the women who fought for women's suffrage were abused, by both men and women, in their fight for equality and the real cost of the struggle. It was enough to make me rent the movie. And movie was enough to bring tears to my eyes.
At a time when the democratic process is so important and yet so questioned it almost makes you wonder if you should vote, this film won't let you not vote, as a woman. Throughout this Decision '08 time I've questioned who I will vote for in November, but watching what the women fought for, what they believed in, what they endured to make sure that every mom, daughter, sister, aunt, and grandmother has the right to say who they think should run our country has at least made it so that whenever I decide who I will vote for, that vote will count. To think that less than a hundred years ago we couldn't even voice our opinions, and now in 2008 there may be a woman who is the voice. I highly recommend the movie to anyone - it was an HBO special but it's available to rent. It's really quite awesome.
