1 Month Old!

Okay, so Kayla is now officially a month old. Depends on how you count - she was 4 weeks on Thursday, and since there is no February 29th we said she was a month then - but according to the ticker over there she is 1 month and 1 day today since yesterday = February 29th if there was one. :)

Currently Kayla is sitting next to me, propped up in her boppy pillow being all content and occupied by Lord knows what.  So, I thought I'd take a minute to try to get going on this weeks blog.

We had a good first week on our own - not perfect but manageable. I had to go to the doctor's office three times a week for my incision so that at least gives us a reason to get out several times a week which is nice. I'm getting good at getting the stroller in and out of the car and set up - and practice makes perfect. We also went for a few walks around the condo complex and down on the Pacific Electric Trail (walking path) here in Rancho.

Our issues this week were limited to an incredible amount of spit which caused me enough concern to take her to the doctors, and unfavorable sleeping conditions. The doctor offered to run a test to see if she had acid reflux, but that included making her drink a dye and then taking x-rays to see how it traveled and if it came back up. While that's an interesting proposition, we felt it was a little too invasive for a 1 month old. So, for now we're just going to watch her and see if it gets worse. Some days are worse than others but I can't figure out if there's a correlation to anything - like what I'm eating. So, we'll just wait it out and see what happens.

Other than that our only other issue is sleep - she's confused, and we're confused, about getting enough sleep and when to sleep, but we're figuring it out. As we speak she's sleeping and has been on and off all day - mostly asleep - which is nice, but I'm afraid she won't sleep tonight. She's found her own way of telling us that she's sleepy - by crying bloody murder! I wish babies didn't have to scream about everything - it makes things difficult to figure out. :-) Guess that's just one of the many things we'll have to figure out. We did figure out that she doesn't like her hands covered - well, we figured that out a while ago. She always gets them out of the swaddle, and she takes them out from under any covers we put over her. It's really cute, but that means her hands are a little chillier than I'd like. But at least she's happy. :)

On to happier things. I don't think you can tell in the pictures but her eyelashes have come in nice and long and beautiful. Right now they are really light - like her eye brows - but at least they are there. When she was first born (like that was so long ago) there were only like 2 of them and they were so tiny - but like her they have grown!

This week we bought a bouncer and we're all big fans. It doesn't work miracles, nor does the swing, but it works. It'll put her to sleep or keep her occupied while we're busy (ya know, taking a shower or cooking dinner).

And we took her 1 month pictures - I uploaded a couple of them to Picasa. Can you believe that?!?! 1 month old! That's crazy. She is absolutely the love of our lives - almost everything about her makes us happy - even the crying when we know why she's crying (hungry, sleepy, etc) makes us laugh sometimes. She's getting so much better with her head and eye control. She looks at us and can follow us with her eyes, she smiles (though not quite yet in response to anything in particular, but it's still adorable), she's staying awake for longer periods, and she's gaining lots of weight (about 9 lbs now).

I can't wait to see what the next month has in store for us!
