Yay! We finally made it to the pediatrician to talk to her about getting Kayla on solid foods. She said to start her on rice cereal once a day (and also said that she was waking up in the middle of the night b/c she's not getting enough food) so we're going to feed her the cereal at night and see if that works. Tonight, because I kept her out at Applebees with my new friend too late, she had a late nap - around 7:55 - so we started her feeding at 8:30. Boy am I glad we did!
I mixed 2 tbsp of this rice cereal with several tbsp of her formula, put her in her bumbo, strapped on a bib and went to work. 20 minutes later we had gotten 1/2 the rice cereal somewhere around her mouth or on her bib. :)
Earlier in the week I tried to get her used to the spoon - which Eric (and others probably) thought was ridiculous. But I thought it was a good idea. Even with a couple evenings with the spoon she still wasn't a fan tonight and even gagged once (though I think it was a pretend gag b/c it wasn't like I was shoving the spoon down her throat!). And a few times she turned her head away and closed her lips. But I was persistent and eventually she was opening her mouth wide so I could get the spoon in there. We still weren't completely successful at getting the entire spoonful of cereal in her mouth but overall I think we did pretty good for our first time out of the gate. We'll see how it goes in the coming days... in a few weeks we'll start vegetables I guess. Hopefully she's used to the spoon by then!

ReplyDeleteOh, you'll love the diapers from solid food. He He He.
ReplyDeletePut some honey on your finger, wipe the spoon with you finger and let her taste it. Spoon for ever.
