Currently, our little miss is really obsessed with developing her hand eye coordination... so I figure if she gets this stuff down pat now, later she won't need to spend any time on video games to develop better eye hand coordination, right? Maybe. Maybe not. Anyway, she's been practicing a few different ways for the last couple of weeks.
She loves to put objects inside one another. Last weekend she was occupied for 30 minutes at a time several times over the weekend by putting a straw into a lid - a regular size straw into a fast food cup. Over and over and over and over again. I was really quite impressed that she was able to do that - I mean - that's some serious coordination there folks. How many times have you missed the hole when you try to put the straw in your drink???
She also loves stackers - the rings that stack on top of one another, the cups that stack inside one another, and I'm sure those little German dolls that stack inside one another if I'd let her play with that (but the pieces are too small). Alyssa got her those stacking rings and we worked with her to learn how to put them on and take them off the stand.
We still hand her the one that goes on next, but she can get it on there. The cups are different, those she can kinda do on her own. She will sometimes try to stack blocks on one another but never more than 2 at a time - if we build them any higher she immediately knocks them down. Maybe she could be a city planner in Claremont (or any other city) that has height restrictions on their signs and buildings. :)
Pushing buttons, no matter how small, and getting a reaction is also a new found skill. That's how we got her to like our dancing Santa.
She's also found a new love of her bouncer since she can push some buttons on there and make it play music - which she loves! Now, too, most times I go out the garage with her she pushes the button to open the garage door then points excitedly at the door as it opens. I'm also trying to make sure to remember to let her push the light switches, though those are a little more difficult because she has to know exactly where to push and I have to remember to not turn them on myself. But since it makes her so happy I try to let her do it.
She's definitely moving and grooving these days and I think we are all loving it. Except the constant desire to go up the stairs when we don't want to go upstairs. Finally broke down and bought a gate for the stairs so she doesn't try to go up them unless we want her too. We'll see how long that lasts. :-)
It's always fun to see what new tricks Kayla is doing and that Kate will (hopefully) be doing soon, too!
ReplyDeleteI am really impressed with her fine motor skills. The straw and the rings are tough skills, seriously. Go Kayla!
