... has a new freedom with her new walking ability and she loves to take off. She likes to chase and be chased and tries to run sometimes.
... has tried to dance while standing without support. It's really funny b/c she doesn't have enough balance to do it yet so it doesn't last long.
... is working on learning the sign language for "more"... though it usually comes out as clapping and only after prompting. But we're trying.
...waves her hands in front of her, knocking down anything in front of her, when she gets mad.
... loves, loves, loves to be outside and feel the wind in her hair... still. And at the playground she's a big fan of the swings and slides - will even go headfirst - girl has no fear (or sense)!
...likes to throw her toys... still... only she's getting better at it now.
...is soooo excited to be able to play with the other kids, in particular chasing/following them.
... has a new nickname - turtle - because when she's sitting in the car seat she strains her neck up so she can see. Not sure what she's trying to see but it's all the time, up and down and really cute.
... drinks from straws out of cups which is really convenient when we're out.
...is now at least partially interested in video chats. We had a nice long one with Nana the other day where Kayla was actually reacting to what Nana said. But, after a few minutes she wanted down and played around the room for a while. Made Nana very dizzy trying to chase her around with the camera.
... likes dogs, not little yappy dogs, but medium to large dogs - she thinks they are a lot of fun especially when they tickle her by sniffing and licking.
...doesn't really like to eat meals right now - snacks are better apparently.
... has worn a path in our dining room, around the table... round and round she goes... carrying anything she can hold, even if it weighs as much as she does.
...went to go pick out the abc book after Eric sang her the abc song once... he swears it was deliberate that she dug around for it and looked at him like "hey, you forgot this"... too bad I wasn't in the room to see it.
... has found a new set of lungs and likes to scream and talk
... is painting at daycare - we might have the next Picasso on our hands!
...is down to 1 nap of varying lengths per day. We tend to get 1.5 hours but sometimes we'll get closer to 3... those 1.5 hour ones are NOT enough but oh well. She's actually sleeping less at night too I think. Goes down around 8 as usual but seems to be getting up closer to 6 (or earlier) than to 7. Makes it hard to get ready in the mornings, but she can generally entertain herself in our room, unless I'm blow drying my hair - she hates loud noises like the dryer or the vaccuum! (wow 3 topics in 1...oops!)

... is described by Eric as "enhanced" or "Kayla 2.0". ha ha ha.
In the last month she really grew up, we can totally see a change in her now that she's one. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with walking - that surely makes her seem more grown up, but her behavior in general just seems a little older. I almost wrote mature, but at 1 how can mature can you be? Especially when she still screams and throws tantrums. :-) But things are getting more fun and more interesting around the Colvin household! Stay tuned!
