Beyond babbles

It's official!  Kayla's said her first word!  Well, words really.  I was waiting to declare it her first word until I was sure she was using it in the right context (and therefore I have no idea which day it was that she first said it.  I first started working on "hi" a week or so ago I guess.).  She now says "hi" and "bye" as people come and go.  Not every time but somewhere between "sometimes" and "always".  :-)  She waves her hands and says which ever word.  To anyone walking by - anyone, even dogs.  She can also say uh oh, knew that one first, but I don't consider that a word.  So, there you have it folks!  15 months old and she finally said her first word!  She says da a lot but not in reference to anything in particular.  It could mean daddy or it could mean "what's that" or "dog" or "duck" or "I want that"... anything.  She's also said mama and nana but, again, not in reference to anything or anyone and nana she only said once.  I think we could be close with ball since she says "ba" a lot, same thing with dog and duck because of "da" but the last sound(s) in those words are a little difficult so we'll see.

We've worked on animal sounds too and she knows a sheep says "baa" and snake says "sss" a lion says "roar" and a monkey says "ah ah ah" (yes, ah ah instead of oh oh because she was saying ah ah and a monkey was the closest sounding animal).  I've tried to get her to say moooo but haven't had luck yet.  I tend to associate animals with sounds she's already making.  One day she was saying "sssss" so I went with it and now snakes say "ssss".

We're working on talking but I'm not really pushing anything.  She'll come around - in her own time.  But, we have a start.  I'm sure the avalanche will come before we're ready.
