The Cowboy's meet up planned a day at the park yesterday complete with family and friends, bbq, and softball... a round 2 of the same event a couple weeks ago that we attended. I saw that it was going to rain on Sunday and that even if it didn't rain that it was going to be chilly (low 60's) and wasn't sure Kayla and I should still go. I mentioned this to Eric several times and he said we had to go, that he didn't want to be the only one there without his family. Then I wanted to go late b/c it started at noon and I wanted Kayla to have a full nap but he wanted to be on time so he could get some good food (that we missed out on last time b/c we were late then too). My response - Mexican's are never on time for anything! Not that we're Mexican, but the rest of the Meetup group is so I figured we had time. Turns out we did and we let Kayla sleep for almost an hour before getting her in the truck, where she promptly woke up and did not return to a peaceful slumber for the 35 minute drive as we had hoped.
Anyway, as we were walking up, lugging all our crap, me holding Kayla's hand, I saw everyone gather around, which I thought was weird. Then when we were within hearing distance they said "Surprise". My response - I'm supposed to be here. What's the surprise? Yea, I didn't see the decorated table or anything so I was completely out of it. It wasn't until someone said "this is a baby shower for you" that I got it. Hello! How dense can I be????
It turned out they had a family fun day complete with family, friends, bbq, baby shower games, and presents! Yay! We played the game where you can't cross your arms or your legs or else someone gets to take your ribbon, the one where the husband dresses up the wife in toilet paper, and how many clothes pins can you grab... and the most fun... drinking beer out of baby bottles (as hard as they tried the guys just couldn't get the hang of it so just like the work shower last year, the guy who bit the whole in the bottle won!). The guys were really into the games actually and made it really funny to watch.
Tyler came home with several outfits, in the 6-12 month size thank goodness (b/c everyone wants to buy you cute little newborn clothes) a new diaper bag, and a Roy Williams Cowboys jersey that's not going to fit until he's 2 or 3!
Kayla got to enjoy running around, watching the older kids, and the frosting from a very yummy cupcake! She was absolutely enthralled with a kite that was being flown - I think she probably watched it for 10 minutes, which for a 15 month old might be a record. :-)
Eric of course enjoyed the beer and the bbq.
Watch out folks - it's shower season and we've got 2 more showers coming, that I know of, so there will be more posts in the coming weeks.
