To The Dentist... And Beyond!

Apparently the The American Dental Association thinks your baby needs to see a dentist pretty soon after they get their 1st tooth!  What is the dentist going to do with 1 tooth?  We waited until... now... when Kayla has almost all of her teeth.  There's more to look at now, makes it more interesting for the dentist, dontcha think?  Well, plus there wasn't anything else going on, like, oh say, having another kid enter your life and taking up all of mom's attention.  And she's older and can follow directions better now.  And we had some money in our flexible spending account that needed to be used (or we'd lose it).  And and and.  Now was the time.  Period.

So we went.  Dad even came on his lunch break.  Kayla played with the toys in the waiting room while I filled out the paperwork.  Then they took her height and weight (getting those were a bit of a chore which didn't give me much hope for the rest of the visit).  Then we went in a big giant room that had a big screen and several patient chairs.  I couldn't get Kayla to sit in one of the chairs but daddy held her while the dentist looked around at all her teeth.  After we got started they put on Toy Story 3 for her, but she wasn't really interested in it since there was this random dude sticking a mirror in her mouth.

Then he brushed them, with fluoride toothpaste even.  Guess we need an upgrade here at home!

The dentist even told us we should be flossing now since her teeth are so close together.  Since he did it first maybe it won't be so hard for us at home.  Yea right!

And, also since they are so close together, he took an x-ray to be sure she wasn't developing cavities.  She's not!
(She did soooooo good during this part, which really surprised me.  I wouldn't think she'd be okay with them sticking those digital x-ray thingys in her mouth, but she was.  Didn't say a word just tried to do what they were asking of her.  Seriously, I couldn't be more proud!  At the same time, as I watched her try so hard, my heart was bursting.  My little girl is growing up.  Of course we've got a long way to go but some days, especially with  another little one at home, you realize just how much she's changed and grown.  I can't explain it other than to say that I'm just absolutely over the moon for what an awesome little girl I have.  Okay, side love note over.)

At the end since she was such a good little patient they even gave her a print out of her teeth and a balloon!

Yay, Kayla!  I am so glad dad was there though b/c Tyler woke up part way through so I held him and took pics while Dad held her.  Teamwork!

I guess we'll be going back in 6 months!  She was much better here than she is at the doctor, probably because the dentist didn't give her any shots.  Speaking of which ... next up... the flu shot!  Won't be posting about that... at least not with pictures!
