Why don't I go ahead and name all the days of the week, huh? I might. I might have at least Toddler Tuesday, Wordless Wednesday, and Tyler Thursday. What do you think? Yea right... see if I can keep that up. But I'll give it a go.
Since I stopped doing the monthly updates on Kayla I feel like a lot of the actual information about her has gone out the window. For example - you all should know that she is now 3 feet tall (or close to it) and weighs 29.6 lbs. (75th percentile for weight, 90th for height!) She talks nonstop and it's getting clearer... and longer thoughts... and more detailed... and more remembrances.
She knows that yesterday (b/c everything happened yesterday) we went to visit the firefighters and took them cookies. That actually happened last week but I realized recently that she probably doesn't understand the whole "day" or passage of time concept. I tried explaining it to her, telling her how the sun comes up, she plays, we eat breakfast, we eat lunch, she naps, she plays, we eat dinner, take baths, the moon comes up, the sun goes down, and she goes to sleep. Too much detail? I was just trying to get her to see her day. Anyway, now she tells me when we go to bed - the sun comes up and I play. So, she at least heard part of what I said. :-)
She still says some words wrong, and probably will for a while, but she's slowly correcting herself. This past week, sadly, she learned to say yogurt instead of ya ya. She's said ya ya for yogurt forever... it's kinda sad to say goodbye to that cuteness about her. I'll have to just hold on to waler for water for as long as I can.
She's really quite funny... since the other day she learned how to sing Happy Birthday to Grandpa she's been singing it with a turkey hat on that Gabby gave her. She didn't have the hat on when she learned the song... we didn't sing the song when we got the hat out.... she just decided that's what you do when you put on the hat.
She also thinks everything has to do with birthdays right now. This weekend we made brownies but she said we were going to make dad a birthday cake.
And she loves to sing... sings Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, ABC's, Row Row Row Your Boat (at the end she says melly melly melly life stream - ha ha ha).
She thinks GG has made everyone's shirts, even characters in books.
Her favorites word are "no" and "I dig it" (which translates into "I get it"). I read somewhere that they want to exert independence so they say no until they decide what they want. So, I try to remember that and give her a minute to think about it after she says it... sometimes she'll change her mind, other times (mainly when she's hungry or tired) she stays defiant. She also wants to do everything herself, or do everything you're doing, thus the "I dig it" statement. When we make cookies its "i pour" "I stir" I pour again" "I dig it". Fun times!
She is just so stinkin smart. Seriously. She surprises me every day with what she knows.
Her favorite thing to do is just run and run and run. I agree with Eric - we need somewhere that's gated that's just a big ole field. The playground is great, but she can fall off it. And any grassy areas we have in the parks are not blocked off from, you know, traffic. I mean, they are but not completely... there's always a way for her to get through. Not that she has, but she could. A fence would just make us a tad bit more comfortable.
She's in a line phase with her coloring. Everything is a line. Lines all over blank pages. Lines in boxes in a coloring book. Lines on Elmo's gloves and Dora's hair. Lines!
Physically she's so much better - less clumsy. She still falls a lot but mainly when she's running and gets going too fast b/c she can certainly run fast. But she's more aware, walking around things, not just taking off and tripping over objects.
Funny story of the day: Today, Kayla said she was going to change a little duck's diaper. She got the duck, put him on the changing mat, on it's back, wiped what could be considered his little bottom, threw the diaper away, and then wrapped it up in a diaper. She then picked up the duck, in the diaper, and said "I'm taking the duck" I asked where and she said "To Stroller Strides to see my friends." Seriously made me laugh! Love it!
Also today we made cats/rabbits out of toilet paper rolls and construction paper. After sticking on the eyes and nose and ears she slowly tore them all off. Then when she said she wanted to make a new one I said no, that she'd have to live with her torn one. So she said she'd fix it and show daddy. She was so proud of herself when she fixed it and when she went to show daddy she said "look daddy, a rabbit. I fixed it. I tore it. I fixed it." She was so proud and so were we! I wish she hadn't torn it but she made it all better for herself. Nice!
That's all I've got for now. If I can actually keep this up the future ones won't be quite so long... I just hadn't done a Kayla update in a while.
