It seems my little boy is 14 months old! Yea he still wears 9-12 month clothes, and the 12 month ones are a little big on him, but he really is 14 months old. And he is allll boy!
He loves to throw books out of the drawers - not just take out and set down but throw! Watch your head if you're sitting anywhere near him.
He thinks it's hilarous to grab my nose as hard as he possibly can.
He laughs when Kayla falls down. Not when she really falls down but when she falls down to make him laugh. When she really falls and hurts herself it doesn't phase him.
He has a mind of his own and when he wants to go in one direction you really cannot just pull him in another. He will wrangle his little hand out of yours and go where he damn well pleases. Without asking for directions!
He loves to roll balls and loves to pick them, and other toys, up over his head and drop them behind his back. Not sure where the satisfaction here is but whatever.
One of his favorite games is to chase little balls around the kitchen. He crawls over to one, hits it, it skitters away and he goes crawling after it - under the table, pushing chairs out of the way, laying down to reach under a chair, or trying to squeeze between the fridge and the wall to get it.
He would rather pick up toys, or the bottom rack of the dishwasher, than pull or push them across the floor. No matter how heavy they are. Or how high the surface is that he wants said toy on.
His other favorite toy is a wipe, or tissue, or square of toilet paper. He loves to wad them up in his hand and put them in his mouth. Good thing he spits them out - or will let us take them out. Cleaning up with them is optional - it does happen but not nearly as much as the wading does.
Can very easily get on and off any piece of furniture. Climbs up onto the couch, onto the steps at Chick Fil A, onto the table no matter what height setting it's on, and will either sit down and scoot off or turn around and back off. I don't remember Kayla ever doing this - getting off objects well - but maybe she did. But it's darn cute when he's scooting his little booty around.
Slides down slides almost alone. I still hold his hand, or Kayla catches him at the bottom of short slides. Then he turns around and tries to walk up them. Doesn't usually work.
He eats the junk he's not supposed to... like rocks and sand... yet chews then spits out actual food. I think he spits out everything except eggs, sausage, hot dogs, bananas, and anything sweet. And those aren't swallowed 100% of the time, but better than anything else. When he's not spitting it out he's throwing if off his chair. This is seriously annoying and I've started taking his food away when he does it.
But that doesn't matter much because he STILL nurses! Seriously! I never in a million years thought I'd nurse my son for 14+ months but here we are. He does it mainly for comfort I think. But I do it because he does spit out his food and he doesn't drink much milk, and he doesn't like yogurt... he isn't gaining weight so the least I can do is attempt to nurish him myself.
He does still nurse at night. He was good, finally, at going down around 730 and sleeping until almost 4 on most nights. Then he got sick and he's been waking up every 2-3 hours for the last 2 weeks! Soooo annoying! And waking up and not going back to sleep unless I nursed him. One night he was up for almost 2 hours because I was trying to hold out. But I gave in, because, hello, it had been 2 hours! At 2 o'clock in the morning!
Moving on...
He has developed the inevitable fascination with doors. I don't get it but every kid I know or have every seen at Chick Fil A is obsessed with opening and closing doors. It's dangerous - Kayla's got her fingers shut in the door more than once, and it's annoying because then it's open and shut open and shut by 10 different kids 16 different times.
He just picked up chalk last week and started scribbling with it... as opposed to eating it. So that's awesome. Goes to town with markers too! And I mean Goes.To.Town! But he loves holding them and putting them in the box as much as he does coloring.
He's seriously in love with getting in the front seat of the car. And with holding the keys. And with turning the steering wheel. Everytime we go near the car he tries to leap out of my hands and into the car. Luckily he's not even 20 lbs so I can still prevent that. (Yes. 20 lbs!)
He loves to read, and will let u actually read books to him rather than just turning the pages till you get to the end. We were reading a couple Pooh books to him before bed but in the last week he's decided he doesn't like those pooh books, and will turn away from them, but gets SOOOO excited when you pull out a "Good Night Texas" or "Good Night California" book. And just like Good Night Moon he has a favorite page in those books too.
He's now played Ring Around the Rosy a couple times with the girls and I. And while he does like it, and like being part of the group, he's not quite old enough to do it on his own... or stable enough I guess.
I now have to buy him his own ice cream at Chick Fil A - no sharing with the sister. Plus he likes to eat the cone first so that makes it hard to share. I mean, at this age, they can hardly master holding it horizontally between them and eating from opposite ends, ala Lady and the Tramp. One day.
And I finally moved him to the big boy car seat. He's still backwards, as the new recommendation is rearfacing until 2, and because he and Kayla can see each other and entertain each other facing opposite directions. He's looks more comfortable in there. Still fits in the infant carrier, and will sit in that in Eric's truck, but most of the time he's in the big one in mine.
He's developmentally getting so old, just wish his size would catch up. But I'm glad he's still little so I can hold and snuggle him so easily. He's starting, just starting, to be able to give hugs and kisses but I'll take it. He can do high five and isn't that the next best thing? Ha ha.
I think that's about it. I really thought I'd have nothing to say, that I wasn't paying enough attention, but I guess that's not true. It's hard to divide your attention but it's good to know I do it well enough. Until next month....
