Friday the 23rd - no signs of labor; induction scheduled for Wednesday the 28th.
Spent Sat - Tues walking trying to help things along.
Tuesday 1/27/09 - still no signs of labor. Started Cervadil at 1am to dilate me.
Wednesday 1/28/08 - barely dilated after 12 hours on Cervadil; Pictocin started and water broken in the evening; epidural started at 12am so I could get some sleep.
Thursday 1/29/09
- 12pm - still not very dilated; epidural not working completely so contractions are felt and quite painful - though I imagine that they weren't nearly as bad as they could have been so I'm glad to have had the epi.
- 3pm after no real progress towards labor c-section scheduled for 5pm. Pitocin stopped; contractions stopped shortly thereafter.
- 5:30pm - still waiting. What are these people doing making us wait???
- 6pm - wheeled into OR
- 6:29pm - Kayla Marie Colvin born, weighing 8 lbs 2 oz, 20 3/4 inches long. (Thank goodness she popped out a girl - everyone kept asking if "it" was going to be a boy, or said "it" sounded like/looked like a boy...)
I was put on some pretty good drugs for the pain so the first day or so of her life is a little bit fuzzy. I remember most of it but there are times when I'm not sure if I dreamt a conversation or if it really happened. Plus you're up every couple of hours, even through the night, so things kind of blur together. But we kept a list of things we learned about her in that first couple of days!
- She's a squeaker and a snorter
- She sucks her bottom lip
- She got Katie's nose and Eric's toes (the rest we really can't tell yet).
- She has a full head of hair so yay for bows and ribbons!
- She has the most beautiful dark blue eyes (we know - almost all babies come out with blue eyes and they change, but it's still a really pretty blue).
- 8 lbs is still tiny!
Katie,
ReplyDeleteShe is BEAUTIFUL! I don't know if you remember, but my delivery with Andrew was exactly like yours!!! No progression, no progression, C-section! Take care of yourself. Take all the help you can get. Sleep when she sleeps. I'm sure you have heard all of this, but I'll just say it anyway . . . I'm so proud and happy for you! You are going to be a great Mom :) Love ya!
Christy

ReplyDeleteKatie,
ReplyDeleteShe is so beautiful! You look great yourself! I'm glad things are going well. I was starting to worry when you didn't post anything last week:) Hope you're getting some, when you can! Can't wait to see more pictures!
Kristie
She is beautiful!! I am so happy for you and Eric! There is nothing like being a mother and I am sure you are as proud as you can be! Well sleep when you can, make Eric do everything when you are tired. He doesn't have to nurse her so he can handle the rest! (tell him I said so!) lol
ReplyDeleteTake care and give Kayla some smooches for us! xoxoxoxoxo
Kayla is absolutely perfect ! Take care of yourself. Eat well and get lots of rest.
