The Whole 10 Weeks!

Okay, I'm getting goofy with the titles here but what the heck. Might as well make it fun. Today, Kayla is 10 weeks old! That sounds so weird- both young and old. It seems as if the last 10 weeks have just flown by but at the same time - it's only 10 weeks.

Our big development this week is that she's trying her hardest to laugh. She has squealed and screeched but no actual giggles yet. But I think they are coming soon. It's so cute.

She appears to really like daycare. We're told she's very interested in her surroundings. There are 7 other kids in there so there's always something/someone to look at. She is the youngest one in there by several months, the only one who can't sit on her own, so I assume she's held a lot. They have taken her outside a couple times, when it's warm enough, and have started her on tummy time - spending just a few minutes at a time on her tummy to start working on pushing herself up. We got her a surfboard tummy time mat for the house and she appears to like it. We just have to put her down when she's happy. She's doing really well on there and I think the rolling over will come soon enough. We could tell last night that she wanted to but couldn't quite make it. :-)

She has gotten accustomed to going to bed between 8 and 8:30 - though sometimes she can't wait that long and gets cranky and cries by about 7:45 when we haven't even given her a bath yet. But we're going to figure it out, one day. She's done good about waking up while I'm dressing her in the morning, around 6:15, so I at least get a few minutes of happy Kayla before I leave for work. It's definitely hard to only get a couple hours a day with her. I really treasure putting her to bed - not because she's "finally" going to sleep but because it's our time together. Eric bathes her then I take her upstairs to dress her, feed her if necessary, and put her in her swaddle wrap. If she's not insanely tired I spend a little while walking with her upstairs in the hallway so she falls asleep. If she is insanely tired as soon as I put her in her wrap she's out like a light - which is convenient but I don't want her to become dependent on that to go to sleep. In the coming weeks I'm going to have to try to get to her fall asleep and stay asleep on her own. Everything I read said to give it a couple months - around 3-4 months they should be able to fall asleep on their own but before then do anything you have to to get them to sleep.  So, I've got a couple more weeks before I start really working on that with her.

I think that's about it. My mom and grandparents are coming in town so this weekend should be interesting! Until next week...
