Fun Times with the Great Grandparents

That's right folks... we had Kayla's great grandparents in town over Labor Day weekend! And oh what fun it was. Well, for Kayla anyway. The rest of us spent a lot of time staring at her. :) Especially GG (Great Grandmas new name) who thought Kayla was just the most precious baby in the world even though she was teething and quite loud all weekend!

Oh, yea, did I mention that she's got teeth number 3 and 4 coming in. They broke through over the weekend so she currently has partials of each of those. I think it's still bothering her though but luckily (once i figure out that's the problem) we have some teething tablets we can give her that help ease the pain.

So, anyway, back to the visit... since Kayla is quite the crawler these days (when she's not content to sit and bang things together.) Okay, so this blog isn't coming together quite the way I think it should. Let me run down a list of things that happened/ Kayla learned

*  she loves to stand - all the time.

* grandpa tried to help her learn how to sit
* she has since learned how to lean over, while standing, and pick up something off the ground.
* she has also learned, just last night, how to lean over, touch the ground and use that as support while she sits down.
* she loves to bang two toys together. GG thought that was just an excellent display of fine motor skills!

* she sat in a high chair for the first time - complete with her high chair cover (which ended up probably being just as dirty as the actual high chair but at least it's her dirt!)

* she found out that she can splash with her butt in the bathtub by bouncing up and down in it
* she has decided that it's pretty cool to put her hands in front of her face, palms facing out, and open and close her hands - looks like what you do to look like your making duck sounds. She does it one handed or both hands and her hands could be anywhere on her face but it's especially funny when they are right in front of her mouth. :)
* She likes to hold the end of her bottle - a hand clasped right over the bottom of it... don't ask me why!
* She gets very squirmy when she gets tired - GG figures that Kayla thinks if she just keeps moving around she won't fall asleep.
* did I mention she likes to stand up. :)

Now on to the really important stuff. I'll start with the statement... I have never seen Grandma so happy. I have to say, I would think being in her position, with her perspective would be fascinating. She was able to see her own babies grow up, then get married and have kids, and see those kids grow up and get married and have kids (well, at least one of us so far!). I hope that one day I'll get to experience that - to see generation after generation be born and grow up before your very eyes. I just really think that'd be a fantastic experience. She may say otherwise though. :) Just kidding! I think she has had quite the ride on this thing we call life and I'm so glad that every once in a while we get to sit next to each other in the front seat! I wish, and I'm sure she wishes, we could live slightly closer together as weekend trips every few months doesn't always cut it. Although I have officially been invited back to the "girls weekend" but only if I bring my girl along! I have a feeling that's the only reason I was invited back. :-)

I think her pictures and the captions tell the rest of the story of their visit. But I think the main thing I wanted to convey here was how glad I am that GG is part of Kayla's life and that she will grow up knowing her great grandparents - all of them.
