1st Thanksgiving

Sigh. It's 6:40pm on Thanksgiving evening. Kayla fell asleep early (more on that later), mom and Kris left about an hour ago, Eric is watching the Longhorns v Aggies game (hook 'em horns!) and I'm hoping to stay awake until 8pm. I think as far as 1st Thankgivings go, this one was pretty good.

We woke up early because Kris set off the house alarm... oops! I made some pumpkin muffins thanks to Trader Joes and proceeded to sit around and play with Kayla. After eating and getting dressed we made a quick trip to the airport to get Nana and put Kayla to sleep. (In the car, not on a plane folks!)

When she got home I immediately put Nana to work in the kitchen. Someone needed to make Thanksgiving dinner! Just kiddin - she did help but most of it was pretty easy and I was able to do it myself. We had our 12lb turkey smoked at the local BBQ joint and everything else (stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberries, rolls, pie) came in a box or a bag or a can. Such a cook I am! But I did spice up the mashed potatoes with some ranch dressing and bacon - gotta give me that. :)

Anyway - after dinner (Oh, yea, dinner wasn't very eventful except for the fact that Kayla did try some turkey and did quite the number on a Hawaiian roll) we played some more. I tried to put Kayla down for a nap but she was. not. going! Instead we played with her new toy - a packing box, all the magazines in the world, and dad's her Corona bucket.

Kris took some pictures of Nana, Kayla, and me as well as the Colvin Family. I just realized we didn't get any with him. That's what happens when you're the photographer - you end up behind the camera instead of in front of it. Well, we'll be sure to get some at Christmas.  (updated - as of July 2010 we still haven't seen the pictures... so this is the only one I can include.)

So, after a veeeeery long day, the last of which was full of cries and pouts, I put Kayla in the high chair to give her some sweet potatoes. And this is the result.

A very tired baby falls asleep at the dinner table on Thanksgiving day. I couldn't have planned it better.

I am so thankful for my little energizer bunny - she wears all of us out but I wouldn't have it any other way. Happy Turkey Day folks!
