Our headstrong 17 month old...

... has a mind of her own (in case you couldn't tell from the post title).

... LOVES coloring with her crayons.  We're working on coloring only on paper, and she knows to get paper to color on, but just to act out she'll also color on the couch or wall or shoes or clothes.  Then either screams or smiles when we take the crayon away after her warning.

... can spend minutes (b/c hours is incomprehensible at this point) stacking up her legos or blocks.  And she's so good if it falls over/apart - she just picks it up and keeps on going.

... decided that it's a lot of fun to get in an out of her stroller now that she can do it on her own - she can do it 27 times in a row and not get bored!

...has a new fascination with stickers and all the places you can stick them.
... has thoroughly enjoyed her swim lessons and now goes underwater quite willingly, falls/jumps off the side of the pool, and "floats" on her tummy (with my hand under her)

... now fully recognizes that I'm mama, not her, and calls me by name (most of the time).

... knows that a train goes "cho cho", cows say "moo" (which she finally said after she learned "moon"), and tries to snort like a pig but it comes out as a throat grunt instead of a nose snort - still cute though.

... still loves her shoes but would rather put them on herself and really doesn't want you to, so we let her help us by opening the velcro.

... sees getting dressed as an interruption so you have to a) be quick and b) deal with her squirming and crying and c) try to distract her by singing or being goofy.

... acts like she's just been electrocuted (she's so excited) when we pick her up from daycare

...likes to play peek a boo with daddy's hat... among other things

...still hates nap time

... is working on her manners - she now says please (peez), thank you (choo choo), and help (elp - in a whisper) - we are working on her saying them when she wants something, gets something, or needs something.  She gets really frustrated and cries/screams so instead of doing that I'm trying to get her to say help - but she whispers the half word so we still have a ways to go before it replaces the crying/screaming.

... we think she said something along the lines of "i love you dada" on Father's Day but it sounded more like "i lala dada" - but we'll take it.  (I forgot to include it in the original Father's Day post so I wanted to be sure to record it here. )  We've been working on it since and "I love you" sounds like "Ilou")

...unfortunately she's also learned the words "mine" and "no".  She says "mine" all the time, "no" is rare but it'll become more popular I'm sure.  She points to everything and says "mine" so there's a lot of "no, that's not yours" in an attempt to get her to understand though that's still a ways off

...says "nose" (no), "moon"  (amoo) when she sees them, and tells cars bye bye when she sees them.

... likes corn on the cob - if only all veggies grew on cobs.  :-)

... has 14 teeth - not including the top 2 eye teeth that have poked through but not yet descended.

... now turns her books right side up if they are upside down.

... identifies apple jacks as "appleja" instead of just "apple" and "mi" for "milk" and knows exactly where both of them are.  Can also say cracker (kaka), up (uh), down (dowww), all gone, teeth, water (walo), wagon (wa-o), poo poo, and sticker (kika).

... opens the fridge and choose between her juice and her milk (I had to start keeping sippy cups of each on the bottom shelf so she could do this) though she still wants to grab the milk jug or juice carton sometimes.  Sometimes she opens the fridge just to look in it and if you try to close it she'll wedge herself in there and stick out her butt so you can't.

... when you say "chew your food" she opens her mouth to show you all her food.

... has a little tan - even though we put spf 50 on her!

... she doesn't like to be under blankets - if you try and put a blanket on her legs or something she'll take it off.  Always has actually.  I just thought she'd get used to it - apparently not.

...when she doesn't want something you're offering she turns her head to her left, as far as it can possibly go.

... likes to feed mommy and daddy (b/c we steal her food to show her it's good to eat in an attempt to get her to eat it when she doesn't want it)

... when she's almost done with something (food) or we want her to be done with something and are thus taking it away, she stuffs what's left in her mouth so much so that she has a whole mouth full of whatever it was and says "all gone"... silly girl.

...picks out which shoes she wants to wear, which isn't always the shoes she has on or the ones I want her to wear.

... wants to do somethings herself - like pick things up, climb into the car, wipe off her hands and face, etc... she still needs help but I try to let her do as much as she can.  Especially now that her car seat is right behind my seat and I can't get to it on my side of the car - so she's learning to get in on the passenger side, walk over the other side and climb in (and vice versa).  She takes her sweet time doing it but she really likes that she can.

... likes to race people - if they are walking next to her she will walk faster or run to try to beat them

... is becoming a little person.  Case in point... When I dropped her off at daycare this morning her friend Bradley was trying to open the fridge to get his milk.  Kayla walked over and pulled on the handle as well to try to help him.  How cute is that?  Then, when I picked her up this afternoon she ran up to me and after I hugged her I told her to finish her snack (which she was in the middle of) and she went back and got some more crackers. After she took a couple she came back and said bye bye (she was ready to leave). I told her to go get a couple more crackers and she said "cracker?" I said yes and she went to get another one. she came back and said "all gone" (since she was now all done with her snack) followed by "up" so I picked her up and she gave me kisses and said "bye bye" again. I put her down (b/c it's hard to carry the both of them right now) and she said grabbed my hand and took me to the door. Guess she was ready to go. So cute.
