Well, just like with Kayla we got out of the hospital just as soon as we could - 2.5 days after he was delivered, at midnight no less. But after the hassles of the hospital it was time. I did enjoy my last day there where I spent the majority of the day alone, enjoying the peace and quiet, reading my book, resting, relaxing, enjoying a little bit of time with my newest baby. But, I was ready to be home, so Eric didn't need to try to entertain Kayla in a little hospital room, so I could sleep in my own house and be there when Kayla woke up and went to bed. (The things you miss when you're away from your kid.)
Anyway, so, we've been home for 5 days now, getting used to things, feeling our way though. Lessons learned?
... our beautifully homemade cradle will have to be reserved for evening only, upstairs only. Kayla can reach into it, shake it, move it, etc too easily for Tyler's safety. So, for now he's in the pack and play downstairs and when we move upstairs in a week or two we'll keep the cradle upstairs so he can sleep in there.
... Tyler gets super red when he gets mad - his whole body, head to toe, turns bright red. (Which may or may not be better than the yellow he's been sporting for the last few days - poor guy.)
...Tyler doesn't tend to need the swaddle to sleep. He likes it, sometimes, but he doesn't always need it. What he does need is a pacifier, and since we have yet to let him have one, I serve as one. So, I don't know if we're going to wait the two weeks we waited with Kayla - he seems to need it more than she did.
... Tyler constantly has his arms out or up when you hold him... guess he likes his new found freedom
... Kayla loves to go over to his pack and play when she hears him cry - she stops whatever she's doing and goes and peeks over at him.
... CA is the place to be if you have a baby who needs indirect sunlight to help with jaundice...we can spend a lot of time outdoors right now, especially in the morning and evening when it's not too hot or too cold
...Don't start getting ready to leave the house 20 minutes beforehand... with 2 you need at least 45 minutes!
... Tyler got his daddy's sleep gene - the boy can sleep through anything, which is good considering Kayla loves to laugh and scream super loud, tries to climb on his pack and play, and shakes it when she tries to look into it.
... Tyler can get PISSED when he doesn't get what he wants (which is usually food)
... Daddy is more tired this time around than last time - he doesn't have to be Dr. Dad this time but it's a little more like being a single daddy since mommy isn't a whole lot of help yet. Props to him for cleaning up the kitchen today (which was a total disaster!) and for taking care of 99% of the diaper changes - leaving only the middle of the night ones to mom.
... that right now things are pretty easy with the two of them since Tyler sleeps so much, but we expect a full turn around in the next couple weeks complete with mental breakdowns. :-)
