So, we get in there, I get all prepped, and wa-la at 12:38pm here comes Tyler - all 7 lbs of him! I took one look at him and said "he's so small!" and my doctor asked me why I thought that. I don't know, I just did. Then come to find out a few minutes later that he's 1 lb smaller than Kayla was - that's how I knew. He just looked smaller than the first one. :-) Next up - length - he's 19inches, an inch and a half smaller than Kayla as well. Now, Kayla was born at 40.5 weeks, Tyler at 39 weeks so maybe that last week and half makes a big difference, I don't know. Who cares! We have a healthy little boy.
Sorta.
I mean, we do, but it wasn't all wine and roses. He apparently (though we weren't told this until 8 hours after delivery) had the cord wrapped around his neck so he had some difficulties slowing down his breathing after birth. He also, once, every so slightly, started turning blue because he couldn't catch his breath. But the nurse was right there and took action. So, no need to worry. But, all this meant that except for this quick look
I didn't get to see him (or hold him for that matter) until 8pm that evening. And let me tell you, that is seriously frustrating. Add to that that no one was giving us much information, other than "he's breathing too fast" and it was hard to get a nurse to the room, and Kayla was at home, and Eric was in and out and I was one freaked out mama. At first, sure, go ahead and let me rest, I'm in and out anyway, not much help to a baby, but after several hours I'm read to get this show on the road. I'm ready to hold my baby, to feed him (which is supposed to be done within the first hour!) and to just be with him.
But, finally, at 8pm, almost 8 hours after he was born, they brought him in. We kept him with us for a couple hours but then decided it'd be best, for this first night to have him stay in the nursery so they could keep an eye on his breathing. It worked out well - Eric and I finally got some decent sleep and Tyler was well taken care of. I'm just so glad that he's here, that we get to love on him and kiss him and see him and that he is, in fact, healthy. Couldn't ask for anything more.
He's beautiful, congrats! And I know exactly how you feel about wanting to hold him and feed him and how frustrating it is when they're not letting you see your precious baby. Good luck in the coming days!
