19 Months

Since I just posted the "I love that" post, I thought this one should be more than a list.  Plus, as she gets older it's harder to keep to one liners.  So, here's a way too long of a post to tell you all about how our little girl is growing up.

Ms. Kayla, at 19 months...

... weighs 26.8 pounds and is 32.5 inches tall!  Still in the 75th percentile I believe.

... intercepts words... if you say a sentence that includes a word she knows she repeats it, even if you aren't talking to her.  It makes me laugh that when I say "lyin" (as in, I'm not lyin) she roars.  :-)  When you say "so, what are we going to do today?" she says "soooo".

... has learned to hold up her pointer finger when you say " Cowboy's are number?"

That's how we got this awesome picture.  Cowboys are number 1... at least according to dad.  :-)

... mimics everything - the way I "mop" the floor with a wipe and my foot, the way I make the crayons move in my hands, the way I hit the table when the computer is going too slow...everything.  Anything you do, that she can figure out how to do, and has an interest in doing, she will do.  Gotta watch it now!

... puts things on her arm (bracelets, roll of tape, the tape measure, etc) and says bye bye.  I have no idea where this came from, it's not like I put something on my arm (like a purse) when I'm getting ready to leave (since I leave my purse in the car...shhhh... don't tell any burglers.)

... is insistent and persistent.  If she wants something, wants you to do something, or wants to do something, she says it over and over and over again until you acknowledge her.

... is very interested in and helpful with her baby brother.  I think she's working on a blog post to tell you just how she feels about him.

... is taking later, and longer, naps... we're on a 1:30-3:30 or 4pm scheduled now.  Gives mama more time... to be with Tyler, to nap, to be productive... to nap.  :-) Dad insists that she should go down at 11:45 but since I'm home with her, and I don't want to listen to the crying for an hour, I put her down at 1pm.  Makes it hard for us to go get frozen yogurt on Wednesdays (because then it's close to dinner) but we make it work.  Plus that gives us time for gymnastics if we want to go.

... takes roll.  If dad picks her up in the morning she says "mama?  baby?" until she sees us.  Same goes for during the day "dada?  baby?"  or if we go somewhere with out the baby and daddy.  She also adds nana, g.g., and papa to the list sometimes.  The more visitors and the better her vocabulary is the longer that list is going to get.  :-)

... has an ever growing vocabulary.  Though I learned this week, when I took them to visit coworkers, that apparently only dad and I understand her (and sometimes only me, and sometimes not even me!)  HOWEVER - that vocabulary, pretty much every word, has disappeared in favor of the word "fabi".  I don't know what fabi means or where she got it from, but I wish she'd stop.  Right now, everything is "fabi".  The name of everything, every question, every statement... everything is "fabi".

... is doing so much better at the grocery store and Target now.  For a little while there she was horrible, but now she entertains herself by munching on the food's containers (you know, boxes and plastic wrapping are delicious.), or playing with whatever items I throw in the car, and then helping to put the items on the conveyor belt.

... still uses the garage door as her "home base".  She will go there to play with toys sometimes, or just sit, or sometimes she makes dad and I walk back and forth from the front door or the stairs to the garage door.  And we all have to stand against the door.  If we aren't touching the door she points to the door until we do.  Like I said - persistent and insistent.

... is still a big fan of colors.  In fact, we had to buy new colors because she's worn the other ones down so much.  She's even learned how to draw circles, sorta.  I've instituted a new rule, since coloring on the couch, her toys, and the floor is unacceptable to us, but way too tempting for her - we now only color while sitting in the highchair.  This at least limits the coloring to the paper I provide - or the table/high chair tray.

... apparently thinks the baby papasan chair is her chair.  She turns climbs in, turns it on, and relaxes in it.  For a minute anyway...

... is going to make us get a new TV sooner rather than later (ours is on it's way out).  She will not keep away from it - she loves to turn it off and on, draw circles on it with her fingers, point out body parts on the characters... we just really need to get it mounted up high on the wall where she can't touch it or accidentally pull it over on herself.

... is very orderly and neat (most of the time).  If we go out in the garage she likes to bring in the dustpan and broom - whether or not we are going to sweep (though I should use the opportunity to do so).  When she is done with them she puts them back - exactly where she got them from.  If you try to put them back somewhere else she flips out.  Same goes for other items like shoes and books.  She also cleans up messes she makes by getting the wipes and wiping it off (usually a coloring mess).  Is all too happy to put away her toys, mainly though only when we ask her to/help her.

... is very routinized.  If you did something one way, she will remember it and expect you to do it the same way the next time (and every time) you do it.  For example, Eric takes her out when he takes out the trash.  Grandpa Bob went to take out the trash and she saw he was getting it together so she went to unlock the door for him, pushed back the screen door, and expected to go out with him.  She also pointed him to the bucket of water that collects from the a/c's condensation which Eric gets rid of by watering the plants.  Even though it wasn't dad doing it, she knew what was supposed to happen and wanted to be sure it happened that way again.

And a couple things she's been doing for a while but I forgot to put them in the monthly updates.

... she likes to walk up your legs, well straddle them, so she can sit on them (been doing that for a while, just forgot to document it earlier)

... likes to take you for a walk (again, been going on, forgot to document).  As in, she will grab your hands (or legs) and lead you around - which may or may not be where you want to go.  :-)

  1. That's funny that she and Kate do a lot of the same things. Kate is always putting things on her wrists like little bracelets and loves to sweep...

Kate naps at 1 or 1:30 everyday and actually doesn't cry then...it's bedtime that we get the tears. boo!
