We met up in the morning
But it was pretty hard to stay together once you get inside. We ended up staying with my friends Heather (and her family), Toni (and her son), and Kim (and her daughter). I seriously would have never attempted to do this by myself but I have great friends who are so helpful with the kids! I really owe them!
In the morning only the animal area is open so we hung out in there for a while. Saw us some huge pigs, some goats fighting, and some chickens - among other things.
The kids had fun with hay - rode rocking horse with a hay mane, roped a hay horse, and ran around on hay bales! What could be better?
I'll tell you what's not better. Feeding goats! We've taken Kayla inside a petting zoo before, she loved it. She loves dogs at the park. She looks at animal books all the time. But, apparently, she DOES NOT LOVE feeding goats. I think she thought they were going to eat her fingers. And then when we were standing next to the goats, I think she could feel them breathing on her legs (because at this point I had to hold her since she was crying) and thought they were going to eat her legs. It was not a pleasant experience for her. I kept her in there for a few minutes and tried to calm her down, which she did but not enough for me to put her down. We'll have to try again next year - can't have her scared of goats!
She did have fun dressing up, but not as a disney princess, just a medieval princess. I tried to take her to the disney princess area and she just wanted to color!
Towards the end of the day we rode on the carousel, which she really enjoyed. This sucker was even 2 stories (not that you can tell by the picture).
By this time it was naptime so we headed home. On the way out I mentioned to my friend that I hadn't even seen any of the famous fair food like fried snicker bars or fried butter... and then I looked up and there was the stand, right in front of us. So I made a quick detour to get a fried snicker bar, which I've never had before, before hightailing it for the truck. I got everything and everyone loaded up and couldn't wait any longer!
Gotta say - I'm not real impressed. It's like a snickers bar corn dog and I think the batter totally ruined it. I ate half and threw the rest out (I also had 1/2 a cup of ice cream, 1/2 a root beer, 1/2 a corn dog, and 1/2 a glass of bottled at the fair milk... what can I say, it was a day of halfs!)
All in all it was a pretty good day. Exhausting. Kayla fell asleep within 5 minutes of being in the car, but woke up when I put her in bed at home. Tyler was a happy little camper there for most of the day which was fantastic!
(He was trying to go to sleep here, thus the 1/2 open eyes and the pacifier. Trust me, he was generally pacifier free and happy as a clam!)
I think we'll give it a go again next year!
