Travel Town!

Griffith Park is quite appealing to me, but I don't know my way around there and it's all the way in downtown LA so I don't head there much.  Ever really.  I want to because the LA Zoo is there, along with pony rides, train rides, fun playgrounds, etc.  So, I figured that if I went with a friend it'd be okay - wouldn't get so lost.  Well, it didn't work out exactly, but better than if I had tried it on my own!

I made plans with an ex-co-worker whose daughter is 4 to meet up by the train rides.

Little did I know the signs weren't clearly marked and things aren't quite as close to one another as I thought they were.  I ended up at the now defunct "merry go round" which is really a carousel and several miles away from any train rides.  But, we met up and drove down to what the sign said was train rides and pony rides but we only saw the ponies and after the goat fiasco at the LA County Fair I thought riding ponies wasn't quite up Kayla's alley.  So, we went to Travel Town on the other side of Griffith Park.  See, I told you, not exactly as planned.  :-)

But, I think this worked out well.  Travel Town has big trains.  Real trains.  Old trains.  But trains that they can run around in.  Or at least you used to be able to.

They really only were able to get on one

but they saw a bunch of other ones.

And we looked inside some that were on display.

And to end the day we got to go on a little train ride.  Kayla was pretty hot and tired by this point but she still enjoyed it.

All in all it was a pretty nifty way to spend the afternoon.  Kayla had so much fun running around with Ellie, and Ellie had a ton of fun dragging Kayla around.  Big age difference, and ability difference, but they didn't seem to mind.

Hmmm... what's next???
