1 more month! (23 months)

One more month to go before our little girl turns 2 and only one more of these monthly posts for her!  But, until then... this is what our little one has been up to.

... learned how to open doors, and pulls the lever on lever handles 3 times before opening the door. (though this doesn't happen at home.  Apparently our lever handles don't work the same way Nana's or Gabby's do.  :-)  )

... likes to take attendance in the room, naming everyone.

...names herself (like, if you're sharing she says "mommy, kaky" to indicate that mommy takes a bite, Kayla takes a bite)

... instructs you on things - move, up, sit - and is specific about where she wants you to do those things.  She's been doing this for a while but her growing vocabulary makes it just a little different now.  Often times she'll grab your hand and say "walk" but won't tell you where you're going or what you're going to do when you get there.  We're always told to enjoy the journey not just the destination but is that true in this case... I don't know.

... is trying to learn how to count things, up to 5.

... when she's looking for something or someone she says "r u" (instead of where are you?) or "X go?", X being the thing/person she's looking for (Daddy go?)

...she still eats her peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches from the inside out, eating the jelly first, then the bread.  Goes with the whole "don't mix up my food" phase.

...says "cupo" for ketchup, "fa-fy" for frenchfry, "tac" for cat, "kaky" for kayla, "wabi" for words that she doesn't know, and "abc's" for when she wants you to say, sing, or write the alphabet.    But she tries really hard to say words, even if they are mangled.  And, as I've said before, she's putting her words together to make phrases and mini sentences (I say mini because she says a whole thought but some words are missing).

... generally answers yes to questions and unless she knows "no" is the answer.  She is quite emphatic about "no" and only says it when she means it.  But she will say yes to just about any question, even if she doesn't know the answer.

... did soooo well in TX in terms of not messing with people's Christmas trees, not throwing a lot of fits, doing as we ask (if she's not in the middle of something else), and being entertained.  Really surprised us.

... tries to help Tyler play.  If he's missing a toy she gives him one (though has no problem taking toys away), if he's crying she comforts him and says "Tylo, okay.", and helps turn on toys for him (and herself).  But don't let her catch him playing with a toy she was playing with or one she played with a few minutes ago and didn't not specifically hand to him.  That is not allowed.  Reminds me of this post.

... speaking of which, she now likes to say "my toy" or "my turn".  She's lost interest in "mine" but definitely still identifies things as hers.

... loved to open Nana's drawers since they had handles on them

...had a slight issue coloring only on the coloring books in TX.  Colored on tables, doors, carpets, tablecloths... thus why we don't like to let her color wherever she wants at home.

...likes to see how many things she can fit in her hands at one time.  Or, more accurately, how many of one thing (such as crayons, blocks, rings).

... lines up objects, sometimes by color or size, sometimes not.  But she definitely likes to make sure they are in line.

you have to look under her left leg to see the markers lined up... wasn't aiming to capture this particular "skill" but it's the only one that even remotely showed it
... doesn't want to smile in pictures - don't ask her to or you might end up with something like this.

... loves watching Dora (though I might put a ban on it soon!) but she's not so interested in the toys, which stinks since I told everyone to get her Dora stuff for Christmas and they obliged.  Hopefully she'll grow into the toys.

... she hands us the remote when she wants to watch tv.  At Nana's house this was especially fun since they have 4 remotes!

... puts her fingers through holes in her blanket as she's going to sleep.  It's a handmade, knitted blanket and she sticks her fingers through holes she's found around the edges.  Hope the blanket holds up!

... has definitely hit the terrible 2's because she can be perfectly happy one minute and then in a screaming rampage the next.  This is not new but it is definitely getting old!

Well, I think that's it for now.  As usual there's way more than is written here.  Several times this month Eric looked at her and thought she was growing up, and looking grown up, more every day.  It's crazy how fast time is flying.  In less than a month she'll be 2!  And before you know it, she'll be 22!  Whew!
