We decided for Kayla's 2nd birthday to head south 45 minutes to visit Mickey and Minnie Mouse! I totally pushed it all month. Kayla, do you want to watch Mickey Mouse again? Kayla, do you see that picture of Minnie Mouse? Kayla, here's a Mickey coloring book. Kayla, don't you want a Minnie Mouse birthday party? I wanted her to be ready for our big day.
And then the big day came and she told us her belly hurt. So we decided if she was really feeling bad we'd come home but we were at least gonna give it a shot. But as you can see, she didn't look or act like she was feeling bad.
When we got there we headed straight to Mickey's Toontown, where we spent the morning...
Playing in Goofys Playhouse
Then we headed over to Minnie's House
To see what was baking...
Then on to Mickeys!
Which didn't go so well.
All was fine until she had a meltdown right before seeing Mickey and wouldn't let dad hold her but instead wanted me, while I was trying to put Tyler in the carrier. So, here we are, with Tyler half in the carrier, checking out Mickey's nose, while I hold a teary eyed Kayla a safe distance away from the very real, very gigantic, Mickey Mouse. So glad we didn't have to wait long to see him! In hindsight I should have let the other people waiting in line with us go first while we collected ourselves (they group you so this would have been easy to do), but they kind of rush you so I didn't have time to think about it. Oh well, there's always next time.
After this fantastic adventure we had the brilliant idea to go ride a ride. Enough with the looking at stuff, let's do something! So, dad and Kayla got in a 20 minute line for the Dumbo ride. And waited and waited and waited. Then once they finally got into the ride dad put Kayla on the inside, to keep her safe, but where I couldn't get a picture of her. So, this is them riding (they are in the one with the yellow hat)
And Tyler and I waiting.
Next up lunch, at Pluto's dog house where they serve hot dogs of course, but not before another character sighting... this time Goofy!
And a quick jail break!
We thought we'd try to get her to nap on the train that rides all around Disneyland but that was a miserable fail. Instead we ended up walking around for 45 minutes while Kayla screamed and threw a fit until she finally fell asleep.
For 2 hours! What did dad and I do for 2 hours? Well, we got a snack, people watched, and relaxed. I took Tyler with me back to the car to get their jackets and he took a little nap too. We didn't ride any rides. It's stressful going to Disneyland... with kids... and on our 2 hour break we just wanted to relax. Maybe we'll try it next time (because we got 2 day passes). But for now, this was great.
When she woke up we saw that they were taking pictures in front of Cinderella's castle and even though Tyler was still asleep in the carrier and Kayla was not in a smiling mood yet we still got the picture. Isn't it great!
To round out our day we hit up the carousel
Picked out our new Ear Hats (a must for every 1st time visitor!)
Rode the teacups - her favorite!
And got her face painted (which came off overnight b/c she sleeps on her face! But at least she sat still long enough to let them do it!)
We did also see the Princesses Aerial, Jasmine, and Cinderella but Kayla's not really into the princess stuff yet so it was a little weird. But, you gotta do it!
All in all, it was a good day. She may not have been feeling the greatest, and the characters might have scared her a little, but she really did have a lot of fun. As I mentioned, we got the 2 day passes so we'll be going again sometime before the middle of May. Maybe the 2nd time around she will show how excited she was in the pictures.
Oh, yea, about Tyler... he was a breeze! He sat like a big boy in the stroller or I carried him in the carrier or dad held him (that's about all our options right now) and he didn't hardly fuss all day. There was a lot going on so he was entertained... and happy!
Can't ask for much more from a 7 month old.
I'll let you know how the next trip goes...
