Texas Trip ... List #2

Now that Ms. Kayla Marie is 5 months old she's definitely ready to sit up, get up, and move on. So, today's list skills she's acquired in the last couple of weeks.

Skills
... she can sit on her own, generally unsupported but she's still wobbly and has, on more than on occasion, fallen backwards so we keep a pillow or a person behind her.

... turns herself around to get whatever toy or person is not directly in front of her
... can entertain herself for a while on her tummy or her bottom as long as there are toys nearby
... gets up on her head, forearms, and knees ready to move - but just kind of splats back down

... gets in a raspberry glowing mood and will do them constantly for a while until something distracts her
... transfers toys from one hand to another
... hits or shakes objects to make noise
... can bend over while sitting to pick up a toy she dropped or inspect her feet and sit back up... superwoman strength!
... can pick toys out of her bucket, or dump the bucket over to see what's inside.
... is getting better at eating if she holds the spoon - though it does make for a messy dinner. She's not exactly fond of the cereal yet but we get more down now than we did before... and a lot more on her bib.
and I really think she's spitting up less... still a lot but, really, there whole in her stomach seems to be closing... slowly.

... talks all the time - especially if she wants something changed - and this talking usually ends up in the form of a screech or yell...incessantly at times.

... she's taken to going to bed more easily and not waking up every night. All told in the 11 nights we were there she woke up maybe 5 times which is a far cry from 11. And since we've been back home she's woken up once I think (in 4 days) so we're getting better. I attribute the going to bed more easily to swimming (which knocked her out cold from 6:30pm to 6:00am on Monday morning) or the mobile I bought to go above her bed that gives her something to look at. I can't say that it would have always worked but maybe I should have given in sooner...but I got this for $20 at the 2nd hand store and it lights up, rotates the flowers around, sings, and has a ball on the side that has glitter and changes colors...probably originally $50-$60 so I'm glad I got it for $20.
It doesn't seem like a lot, but it is. She is becoming more independent... already at 5 months she's a little control freak. :) Next up... what she loves!
