So, since the grandma's were in town for Christmas and wouldn't be in town for Kayla's first birthday a month later I decided to throw her an "Almost 1st" Birthday Party complete with invitations, decorations, cake, and presents. I didn't want them to miss out on such a milestone event! I decided that because it's winter we'd have a winter/snowflake themed party. Since Nana had a flight to catch in the evening we started partying around lunch time which meant chicken noodle soup (which Rita made from scratch - I was so gonna go buy some cans but she insisted! What a great Gammy!) and some mitten shaped croutons.
We followed this up with some cupcakes that were supposed to have snowflakes on top but the powdered sugar got a little messy. I got close though.
And oh what fun it was to sing and eat! I made the mistake of putting the cupcake, lit, on her tray while we were singing and had to quickly move it when she decided it'd be fun to touch! Made for a great video though. This was the first sweet thing she's had so she was quite excited about it! The pictures are worth a thousand words!
(Hmmm... what's this??)
(Tastes pretty good!)
(I love cupcakes!!!!)
(Don't you want some, dada?)
(How about you, Nana?)
This of course was followed by some very slow present opening of some very fun toys! Some of her favorites...
All in all I'd say she had the best "Almost 1st" Birthday Party ever! Probably also the first one ever had. LOL. But, I just couldn't help myself. Plus, this way, I got to have the snowflake them I wanted as well as the "1st Birthday" typical theme for her real party. Not that she cared - but it did give us an excuse for cake and more presents and who doesn't love that???
